Social Security Changes

The Social Security Administration has made some changes that will affect how you receive you monthly benefits. Anyone who applies for Social Security benefits on or after May 1, 2011 must receive their payments electronically. If you did not sign up for electronic payments when you applied for benefits, Social Security strongly urges you to do it at this time since all beneficiaries must switch to electronic payments by March 1, 2013. If you don’t, the U.S. Department of Treasury may send your benefits via Direct Express care program to avoid an interruption in payment. The Direct Express card is a debit card you can use to access your benefits without needing a bank account.
Direct deposit is a simple, safe and secure way to receive your benefits.  There are three options for signing up for electronic payments.
