Citizen Corps

The mission of the Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.

In an effort to prepare for and respond to a wide range of emergencies, the City of Strongsville has formed the Citizen Corps for the following four areas:

1. Citywide Block Watch Program - similar to those already in place but
   including a terror awareness component.

2. VIP (Volunteers in Policing) program to expand upon our existing
auxiliary police programs to help with non-intervention police duties,
including traffic and pedestrian control, and to free up law enforcement
   personnel for front-line duties.

3. Medical Reserve Corps consisting of physicians, nurses and other
health care professionals to be placed on a call-up roster in the event of
   a large scale disaster.

4. Community Emergency Response Team to train community volunteers
to aid local residents in preparing home disaster emergency kits and
   other items.
