The Detective Bureau consists of seven general detectives, one juvenile detective, one victim/witness advocate, one Detective Sgt. and one Lieutenant. They are under the direction of a Deputy Chief. They work in conjunction with the community beat initiative to provide the best possible services to the city. In 2007, over 1,500 cases were reviewed in the Detective Bureau. Over 800 cases were assigned detectives based on the solvability or seriousness of the offense and/or need for further arrest or court preparation. These cases were broken down into four investigative categories:
In 2007, the Detective Bureau was able to maintain over a 71% solvability rate on all cases assigned. Crime analysis was used to assist the Patrol Division on crime patterns as well as inform Council members and citizens of local crime trends in the city. In addition to the general case investigations, the Bureau was busy being more proactive and assisting the community. Training has been an important component for the Detective Bureau personnel. All of the detectives have participated in on-going training in such areas as fraud investigations, computer crime, death investigations, sex crimes, internet crime, and auto theft. The Detective Bureau looks forward to working with the community and providing another year of quality service to all in 2008. The 2008 Community Beat Initiative assignments will be:
