Strongsville Youth Commission (SYC)

Who We Are and What We Do

The Strongsville Youth Commission is a group of high school youth (current freshmen, sophomores and juniors) and adult mentors who live in Strongsville and who want to serve the young people of the community while furthering the goals of the Strongsville community. Those goals include listening to the needs of young people in the community, implementing programs to fill those needs, integrating young people into existing programs and opportunities, and developing a leadership program for SYC members to prepare them for for involvement in civic life and service to the Strongsville community.

The leadership cycle runs from July to June, with the application process taking place from May through June. Those selected are required to participate in an initial three-day training session in July.

The group is supervised by Kristen Nykiel, recreation supervisor for the City of Strongsville's Recreation Department, 18100 Royalton Rd., (440) 580-3260, .
