A new study by 24/7 Wall St. lists Strongsville among the 50 U.S. cities with lowest assault rates.
The study used data from the FBI's 2020 Uniform Crime Report to identify the 50 cities with the fewest aggravated assault cases.
It found that Strongsville ranked No. 7 in the nation, with only 9 assaults per 100,000 people, or a total of four assaults reported among the city's roughly 45,000 residents.
Only cities with a population of 25,000 or higher were included.
Other nearby communities also made the list -- North Olmsted ranked 9, Stow was 27th and North Royalton came in at 44.
The city with the fewest assaults was Mercer Island, Washington.
The study notes that of the four types of violent crime -- rape, robbery, aggravated assault and homicide -- assault is by far the most common, accounting for about 70 percent of the 1.3 million violent offenses reported in 2020.
Nationally, the violent crime rate is 399 incidents per 100,000 people. In Strongsville, it is 42.6.
