Keep Fire Hydrants Cleared of Snow

The Strongsville Fire Department is asking residents and business owners to help keep the nearly 3,800 fire hydrants in the city clear of snow.  As the snow accumulates this winter, it can make locating and accessing the fire hydrants difficult and time-consuming in an emergency.

"During a fire, time is critical and every second counts," Fire Chief Jack Draves said. "The extra minutes that a firefighter spends digging out a hydrant can make a significant difference in how quickly a fire can be extinguished."

Residents with snow plow contracts may want to remind their contractors to not push snow in the vicinity of the fire hydrants.  Residents that have elderly or disabled neighbors might also help them in clearing out any fire hydrants in their yards.  If any hydrants are discovered to be damaged or knocked over, please report to Strongsville Fire and Emergency Services at 440-580-3210.
