The Strongsville Fire Department presented its annual awards for going above and beyond in 2021.
Winning the Leadership Award was Captain Dave Haffner for managing a multi-alarm response to a structure fire at Polo Club on a zero-degree night in January.
Firemedics Andy Smeader, Mike Macejko and Jeremy Watt got the Meritorious Service Award for their response and resuscitation attempts at a multi-victim drowning in Berea.
And North Royalton Lt. Mark Baltakis received the Community Service Award for his off-duty response to pull a house fire victim to safety prior to arrival of fire crews.
