Schenek is Firefighter of the Year

Matt Schenek has been named 2022 Knights of Columbus Firefighter of the Year.
A Strongsville firemedic for more than 15 years, Schenek is activie in the training, education and mentorship of new recruits.
He also created the Fire Academy for Kids, a hugely popular summer event that lets kids participate in hands-on firefighting activities during a day-long camp.
His nomination letter also points to his work ethic, leadership abilities and dependability.
"FF Schenek possesses the traits all firefighters should have: the ability to stay calm under pressure, self-motivation, decisiveness, the ability to work well with little supervision and the ability to take charge when needed," the nomination says. "Schenek's efforts, energy and expertise have increased the department's overall cababilities."
