Cleaner Water, One Catch Basin at a Time

Some teens from the Strongsville Youth Commission helped launch what will be a citywide project to remind residents not to put anything down storm drains.

The teens have painted notices next to all the catch basins in the Spyglass Hill development.

Jennifer Milbrandt, the city's coordinator of natural resources, says the stencils aim to remind people that whatever they put in the storm sewers (oil, paint, dog waste) goes into our local streams, to the rivers and then into Lake Erie.

"Storm water doesn't go to a treatment plant. Whatever you put down there goes into our rivers and lake," Milbrandt said.

She's hoping to have all the catch basins in town stenciled this summer.
