Make Sure Safety Forces Can See Your Address

Strongsville firefighters and paramedics are urging residents to make sure their house numbers are visible from the road so that safety forces don’t have to waste precious seconds finding your home in an emergency.

Your address should be on the front of your house and/or on your mailbox post – on both sides, facing the street. If your house is set back from the street, post the address on a sign at the end of the driveway where it meets the road.

The numbers should be:
  • At least four inches tall so they can be seen from a distance
  • A color that contrasts with the background
  • Illuminated by a porch light (on the house) or else reflective (on a mailbox or sign) to be visible in the dark
  • Not blocked from view by bushes or trees
Don’t assume that having numbers on your house is enough, especially if your house is not visible from the street. Also, don’t rely on numbers on the curb – they can be covered by snow, dirt or parked cars.

“Clear address visibility saves precious minutes during an emergency, allowing us to find you and your loved ones faster to protect life and property,” said Captain Andrew Green, Strongsville’s fire marshal.
