As of mid-July 2026, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health was investigating more than 140 local cases of cyclosporiasis, caused by the parasite that lives on fresh produce and producing a host of gastrointestinal symptoms. Those symptoms usually resolve themselves, but for people with weakened immune systems, the symptoms can be severe or even life threatening.
