Firefighters Train with their Neighbors

Firefighters from Strongsville, Brunswick and Brunswick Hills had a joint training session Sept. 27-29, 2017 to work on extrication skills.

The training took place on Pearl Road in Brunswick, just south of Boston Road, and utilized an old bus donated by the Strongsville City Schools.

Asst. Chief AJ Aljabi said he and Brunswick Asst. Chief Rick Barber arranged the session because the three departments often assist each other on mutual aid calls and it's important that they're all familiar with the other departments' tools and techniques. Also, he said, the firemedics may be able to teach each other skills.

Aljabi said Stongsville also plans to arrange extrication training with Berea and Olmsted Falls.

Strongsville recently purchased new battery-powered extrication tools -- replacing more cumbersome hydraulic cutting and spreading devices -- and underwent training on them. Firemedics are now showing other departments how to use the new tools.
