From Horses to Highways: Strongsville's Development Boom
May 24, 2022 | 7:12 PM
Old Town Hall, 18825 Royalton Road
The Strongsville Historical Society will present "Strongsville's Development Boom from Horses to Highways" at 7o p.m. May 24 at Old Town Hall. Speaker will be Jamie Miles, a history student. Strongsville is widely known for its identity as a bustling, business-centric community. Today, only small pockets of evidence survive showing its origins as the small farming township that it remained into the mid-20th century. Ever wonder how this rapid transformation took place? This presentation will explore the impact that advances in transportation have had on the city, its landscape, and its built environment. This is a free program open to the public. Don’t forget about the Strongsville memorabilia sold in the Olds General Store in the Historic Village. Call the Village number at 440-572-0057 to make an appointment with the Store Proprietors to buy pottery, aprons, sweatshirts, afghans, vintage Deganhart glass, postcards and note cards, Strongsville Family history books, etc. The latest book is a compilation of letters written to Strongsville’s Asa and Charlotte Drake between 1821 and 1857. The letters along with reference maps and articles highlighting various places and events look into the life of our pioneer ancestors. The Strongsville Historical Village will resume regular hours for walk-ins beginning in May. The Village will be open 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. the 1st Wednesday and 3rd Saturday of each month May through August. The Strongsville Historical Society and Historic Village invites you to become a member by calling 440-572-0057. Family, corporate, student, senior and individual memberships are available. Please learn more about the Strongsville Historical Society by going to www.strongsvillehistoricalsociety.org.
