A citywide traffic signal upgrade is set for 2019, a project that will synchronize the 57 signals for more efficient traffic flow and better safety. The new signals will be able to cycle based on traffic flow, with "adaptive" technology that will allow them to self-adjust in reaction to traffic volume, using a combination of video cameras, radar and traditional under-the-road traffic loops.
The project will be done in 2019 because the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency agreed to move up a $1.4 million grant three years.
