Firefighters Help Train Assistance Dogs

Fire Station No. 4 on Prospect Road hosted puppies from Canine Companions Northern Ohio Chapter to get the dogs familiar with firefighters, equipment and even a smoke-filled room.

Volunteer puppy-raisers are training the pups to become assistance dogs for people with disabilities. During the fire station training, the puppies meet firefighters wearing full turnout gear, including oxygen masks, and are placed in a training room with a smoke simulator so they don't panic if they encounter the situations once they're on the job.

The volunteers have been bringing the dogs to Strongsville for training for the last few years.
