Strongsville Remembers Sept. 11 Terrorist Attacks

Strongsville's safety forces led a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11, 2017  for the 2,974 victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony, held at Fire Station 4 on Prospect Road, was broadcast live via radio to the other three fire stations and the police station.

Fire Chief Jack Draves and Police Chief Mark Fender both spoke briefly about the attacks, which claimed the lives of 343 firefighters and 73 law enforcement officers. "We will never forget," Fender said.

The event also included the "tolling of the bell," a traditional method of announcing that a firefighter had died in the line of duty, and the playing of "Taps."

Strongsville has held a 9/11 remembrance ceremony every year since the attacks.
